Last year I had an MRI for my burning pelvic pain. My skin in that area
became so hot and burning I had to ask to come out of the scanner. I was in a lot of pain for several days afterwards.

At an appointment with a neurologist this year I was asked whether I had been tested for allergies. The burning is in my mouth and bowel as well
now. Has any-one else been tested for allergies?
I have diverticulosis.
Last week my skin became so `raw`looking, I had to go to a walk in centre. By the time I got there I was covered in welts and raised white bumps like bee stings or perhaps nettle rash. The nurse said it was pretty bad on my back. However the skin around my pelvic region was burning
inside and out. I have not chaged washing powder or anything.

Everything is `on fire`. Could it really be allergies? I am at a loss, and really miserable with it.

Hi Theresa,

Your symptoms sound very very painful.

You mentioned that the doctors asked you if you had been tested for allergies. Did they send you for any tests? If not, it would be useful to have some done. Do you keep a diary of what you eat?

Dear Sarah and Eva-Nicole,
Thank you for your messages of support. It does not seem to matter what I eat the effect is the same. I was tested many years ago for
sensitivities.

We ate at 5.00pm and I`m doubled up at the moment.
So sorry but I don`t know what else I can say.

Thank you for writing.
Best Wishes

Theresa

Hi THeresa,
I have a similar sort of thing happening with raised welts and swellings that itch and burn like crazy. Mine are most often on my head. I usually wake at around 3am with itching scalp which is covered in welts and with at least one eye swollen shut. I get swelling on my face and body as well but usually more itchy than burning. I also have so many reactions to medicines that my GP decided to send me to an allergy specialist as we were getting to teh stage where he hardly dared prescribe anything. I should also say that I get a very rapid heartbeat when the swellings happen and sometimes my mouth can swell. I've had a few trips to hospital scared that my throat would swell but it's just been my mouth and tongue. The local allergy specialist said I needed to see an immunologist rather than him who immediately diagnosed; now wait for the long name--- chronic urticaria and angioedema. It's an auto immune disorder which causes wets and swellings just like an allergy; caused by a sudden release of histamine by your body. However there is no trigger as there is with an allergy and there's no cure. You just have to either take antihistamines every day or carry them around just in case it happens. I also have steroids to take in case my mouth swells. It's a confounded nuisance because I never know when it will happen. When my eyelids swell I look like I did 6 rounds in a boxing ring. It may be an idea for you to see an immunologist.

Hi Grey Hair,
That`s interesting. I was told to take Piriton x 4 per day, but I was already
desperately dry so could only take a few. Since then I have phoned a help line. Have you been offered Plaquinil? and do you see a specialist in SS? or go to an SS clinic?

I found the help line person very helpful, best in years for the SS. I do not know of an SS clinic in Surrey, but wish there was one.

I have a relative who also suffers with urticaria, but I have never had it.
However what you describe sounds similar. I also came up in bruises and
little blood blisters and my skin was raw red.

Does your body heat set it off too? I bought a memory foam matress for my back pain.....but it makes me so hot that the burning starts almost straight away.

Re scalp. I saw a trihologist several years ago. He said he sees lots of people with burning sensations. He made a cream up...really good. I also
had to put oil on my scalp over night, that was good too. I will look up the name of the cream he gave me if you would like.

Best Wishes
Theresa

Thank you, no I'm fine with the treatment I have. I take cetirizene (sp) or loratidine which don't knock me out the was piriton does. I just saw a regular NHS immunologist who told me what it was and how to deal wit it then discharged me. Oh and I too have a memory foam mattress which is wonderful and doesn't make me hot at all. I do wake up burning hot at night but not sweating at all. That only happens if I eat something sweet before I go to bed. Had sugar levels checked and they are fine.
